Brian Padden

Prior to this role, from 2015 to 2016, Brian was the Director of Portfolio Strategy for Immunology at AbbVie. In this position, he optimized the value of AbbVie’s extensive range of current and future immunology assets, including HUMIRA®, the world’s best-selling pharmaceutical product. As a core member of the Immunology Therapeutic Area Strategy Council and the HUMIRA® Leadership Board, he collaborated closely with Immunology Vice Presidents to develop long-range strategic plans for both HUMIRA® and the pipeline. Notably, he led the transition from a large Therapeutic Executive Committee model to a more focused Therapeutic Area Strategy Council model for Immunology, marking the first such transition at AbbVie. He also harmonized the HUMIRA® and Immunology Pipeline strategies into a unified long-range plan.

Between 2011 and 2015, Brian held the positions of Assistant Director and subsequently Associate Director in Drug Development Project Management at AbbVie. In these roles, he managed global cross-functional teams advancing new molecular entities and marketed products through clinical studies. Serving as the “Chief Operating Officer” of Asset Leadership Boards and Asset Development Teams, he achieved significant milestones, including advancing HUMIRA® from Phase 3 start to global launch for Hidradenitis Suppurativa and to EU regulatory approval for Pediatric Psoriasis. He also progressed ABT‐494, a small molecule JAK inhibitor, from Preclinical through Phases 1 and 2 to a ‘go’ decision for Phase 3 for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Phase 2 in Crohn’s Disease. Additionally, he advanced ABT‐981, an IL1a/b Dual Variable Domain Immunoglobulin, through Phase 1 in Osteoarthritis, and Tregalizumab, a CD4 antibody partnered with Biotest AG, through Phase 2 in Rheumatoid Arthritis. He also served as the project manager of the Immunology Therapeutic Executive Committee and the HUMIRA® Therapeutic Executive Committee, contributing to nine Disease Opportunity Profiles presented to and approved by the Pharmaceutical Executive Committee, chaired by the CEO.

From 2009 to 2012, Brian was actively involved with the Center for Pharmaceutical Development (CPD), a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. As one of the founding members of the Industrial Advisory Board, he was elected Vice-Chair and subsequently Chair while working at Abbott and then AbbVie. CPD addresses current challenges in the pharmaceutical industry by providing a forum for academic and industrial scientists to develop novel approaches for improving pharmaceutical API manufacturing, drug product formulation, and analytical methods.
