As a proactive medical student, Dr. Lubitz recognized the importance of gaining diverse medical experiences beyond the Canadian healthcare system. Between 1986 and 1996, he embarked on numerous trips to regions such as Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, and South America, providing primary health education and medical care to underserved communities. Notably, from 1993 to 1996, he was actively involved in malaria-related work in Amazonas, Brazil, and Guyana. During this period, he contributed to pivotal research aimed at developing new diagnostic methods for malaria in Guyana. In recognition of his efforts to enhance healthcare quality in the country, Dr. Lubitz received a citation of honor in 1995 from Guyana’s Prime Minister, the Honorable Samuel Hinds, an accolade he holds in high esteem.
Upon earning his Doctor of Medicine degree with distinction from Queen’s University in 1996, Dr. Lubitz decided to specialize in dermatology, a field that harmoniously blends his medical expertise with his appreciation for the visual arts, including photography, painting, and sculpture. He was accepted into the University of Alberta’s Postgraduate Residency Training in the Division of Dermatology and Cutaneous Sciences in Edmonton, Alberta. This rigorous five-year program encompassed an intensive curriculum of lectures and hands-on surgical courses, culminating in his successful completion in 2001. That same year, Dr. Lubitz passed the Canadian certifying exam in Dermatology administered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as the American Academy of Dermatology exams, securing his board certification in both countries.
Following his residency, Dr. Lubitz sought to broaden his clinical experience by serving as a locum dermatologist across various reputable Canadian medical offices, from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, and Edmonton, Alberta. Recognizing the value of continuous learning, he pursued additional surgical training to offer his patients the most advanced treatment options available. Over several years, he engaged in extensive education and training, particularly in advanced skin care, skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, as well as skin enhancement and cosmetic surgery.
In 2010, Dr. Lubitz established the Bow Valley Dermatology clinic within the Canmore General Hospital, focusing on medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Building upon this foundation, in 2014, he launched Art of SKIN Dermatology and DermaSpa in downtown Canmore. The clinic emphasizes patient education and provides a comfortable, personalized environment where patients receive attentive care from Dr. Lubitz and his expertly trained staff. While he primarily practices at Art of SKIN, Dr. Lubitz continues to perform cutaneous surgery for skin cancer at his Canmore Hospital clinic location.
