BIOGRAPHY

Jonathan Coles is a seasoned professional based in Southampton, United Kingdom, with a diverse background spanning human resources, logistics, customer support, and quality assurance. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Literature from the University of Southampton between 1996 and 1999, achieving a 2:1 classification. Prior to this, he completed his A-Levels at Barton Peveril College from 1994 to 1996, focusing on History, English Literature, and English Language. His foundational education was at Wildern School from 1989 to 1994, where he obtained nine GCSEs graded A-C, including English, Mathematics, Religious Studies, French, History, Science, and Psychology.

From 2017 to 2020, Coles served as an HR Coordinator for Carnival UK’s Seabourn Onboarding Team. In this role, he managed a portfolio of new and rehired crew members from over 60 nations participating in Seabourn’s luxury cruise brand’s hotel college program. He facilitated their induction into the business, ensuring documentation compliance, and acted as a point of contact alongside the fleet’s Training Managers for all procedural, uniform, and financial queries. Coles collaborated with the Bahamas Maritime Authority to supervise the issuance of Seaman’s Discharge Books to the fleet and worked closely with scheduling and recruitment colleagues in Italy and the USA to match new hires to appropriate joining ports. He provided one-on-one support for all visa and medical requirements and initiated criminal background and reference checks.

Between 2016 and 2017, Coles held the position of Logistics Coordinator at Carnival UK, focusing on MLC Crew Compliance. He managed seafarers’ documentation compliance in line with Maritime Labour laws and the International Labour Convention. His responsibilities included generating and collating work contracts for the fleet and working with international manning and port agents to ensure safe transit to vessels and compliance throughout the length of contracts.

From 2013 to 2015, Coles was a Logistics Coordinator for Carnival UK’s Mistral Project. He collaborated with consultants from the Italian group’s subject experts to deliver a new Crew Scheduling operating system. He devised new Standard Operating Procedures using MS Visio and managed logistical arrangements, including hotels, transfers, and flights, for seafarers joining or leaving vessels for the Cunard and P&O brands at ports globally. Coles consulted with local service providers and ship’s Crew Managers to ensure safe joining and repatriation processes.

Earlier in his career, Coles gained experience in various roles. From 2012 to 2013, he worked as a Customer Support Coordinator at GDC Group, providing technical support for the gas fire division. In 2012, he served as a Contracts & Dispatch Coordinator at Premier Telecom Ltd, handling contract agreements and the dispatch of mobile phones and related equipment. Between 2009 and 2012, Coles was a Returns Coordinator at CIBA Vision UK Ltd, where he collaborated closely with an IT Project Manager to install an SAP system, reducing operating costs, and led integration training with third-party suppliers. From 2007 to 2009, he advanced to Returns Team Leader at CIBA Vision UK Ltd, analyzing department performance, implementing in-depth surveys with key accounts, conducting interviews, disciplinaries, and appraisals with HR, and orchestrating product recalls and quality control projects with Brand Managers. His tenure at CIBA Vision began in 2001 as a Returns Administrator, where he processed customer credits, provided telephone order backup to the Customer Services team, arranged logistical uplifts to regional warehouses, and maintained recycling and waste management protocols.

Between 1995 and 2001, Coles undertook various temporary roles, including positions as a Retail and Classroom Assistant and a Quality Assurance Facilitator in manufacturing. This diverse experience has equipped him with a broad skill set and a comprehensive understanding of multiple industries.
