Kel O’Neill is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer who specializes in creating cross-platform content that blends documentary filmmaking, art, and technology. He is renowned for his innovative approach to storytelling, particularly through interactive media and virtual reality. Throughout his career, Kel has collaborated with his partner Eline Jongsma to create some of the most groundbreaking media projects of the past decade. Their work includes the Emmy-nominated and Webby-honored interactive documentary Empire, which premiered at the New York Film Festival in 2013, and the VR documentary The Ark, which won the inaugural Tim Hetherington Visionary Award at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016.
Kel’s work extends far beyond traditional film production. As a Senior Fellow at The Economist Media Lab, Kel explores the intersection of art and technology, creating immersive experiences that push the boundaries of media. His role involves consulting on interactive features and VR/AR projects, including his work as the creative lead on Oceans VR: Net Positive, a groundbreaking virtual reality experience.
