BIOGRAPHY

Kevin Glass is an accomplished integrated circuit (IC) design engineer with extensive experience in developing advanced semiconductor technologies. With a career spanning more than a decade, Kevin has made significant contributions to the fields of data converters, frequency synthesizers, and RF and fiber optic communications. His expertise in high-speed analog and digital circuits has led to groundbreaking work in the design of systems used in fiber optic networks, including the development of cutting-edge 100GB and 40GB coherent receivers. As a principal engineer and director at Sierra Monolithics in Redondo Beach, California, Kevin has been at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, working with state-of-the-art technologies to design some of the most advanced ICs in production today.

Kevin’s journey into the world of integrated circuit design began with a strong academic foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, followed by a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from Arizona State University. His dedication to advancing his technical knowledge and expertise led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State, where he focused on cutting-edge technologies related to semiconductor design and high-frequency circuits. This educational background, coupled with his hands-on experience in the field, has made Kevin a recognized leader in his industry.

Throughout his career, Kevin has been instrumental in designing and developing highly specialized circuits that push the boundaries of what is possible in high-speed communication systems. One of his major achievements includes the design of a 66Gsps 6-bit flash analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, which incorporated new architectures and millimeter-wave (mm-wave) circuit innovations. Additionally, Kevin played a key role in the development of highly interleaved A/D converters integrated with digital signal processing (DSP) for one-chip fiber optic coherent receivers. His work in these areas has resulted in numerous patents, with Kevin having been issued several US and foreign patents for his innovations in semiconductor design.

In addition to his technical prowess, Kevin is also passionate about advancing the capabilities of semiconductor systems to support high-data-rate communications. He has worked on the design of band-pass delta-sigma A/D converters with high sampling rates and broad bandwidths, as well as developing massively parallel array delta-sigma A/D converters for high-speed applications. Kevin’s research and development in these areas continue to impact the telecommunications industry, particularly in the area of point-to-point radio systems and network backhaul, where his work on 256 QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) at 12/24GHz has made significant contributions to improving data transfer rates in modern communication systems.

Outside of his professional life, Kevin enjoys a variety of hobbies and activities. He is an avid outdoorsman, with a passion for off-roading, bike riding, and fishing. Whether it’s trout fishing in freshwater or saltwater fishing off the coast, Kevin’s love for nature allows him to unwind and recharge away from his demanding work in semiconductor engineering. Additionally, he enjoys photography and is a musician who plays both acoustic and bass guitar, reflecting his creative side and ability to balance his technical expertise with personal passions.
