Michael Scheidell

Prior to SECNAP, from September 1998 to March 2001, Scheidell was the Director of Business Development at VenturCom (now Ardence). In this role, he was responsible for the Southeastern United States, South America, and Caribbean regions. He led a sales team focused on industrial automation, achieving a 400% annual revenue increase. Scheidell managed VenturCom’s partnership and major accounts program, overseeing OEM accounts with companies such as AMD, Compaq, Rockwell, Eaton, GE FANUC, Siemens, Bell & Howell, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, Beckman Coulter, NASA, USAF, SAIC, Panasonic, American Megatrends, and others.

Earlier in his career, from March 1982 to August 1998, Scheidell founded and served as CEO of Florida Datamation, which became the world’s largest distributor of QNX, a leading Intel-based real-time embedded operating system. He was responsible for marketing, OEM sales, research and development, and engineering departments. Scheidell established international partnerships and distribution channels across the U.S., Germany, Spain, England, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and other countries. His customers included IBM, Boeing, Nortel, Mitel, Westinghouse, SAIC, DuPont, Kodak, NASA, the Department of Defense, Citrix, Sony, UPS, Bell & Howell, and HP. He also created a national dealer support program with HP and signed distribution agreements with companies such as ITT, Mitel, HP, Equinox, QNX, DEC Tanberg, Radisys, and Sybase.

Currently, Scheidell serves as the CISO and Managing Director at Security Privateers, a group of dedicated professionals specializing in security, privacy, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) management consulting. In this capacity, he manages client contracts from inception to fulfillment, performing all the duties and responsibilities of a full-time CISO without the associated overhead costs. His responsibilities include developing or updating information security and privacy policies, providing guidance to CIOs and executive management, leading information security planning processes, establishing security and compliance goals, mentoring information security teams, and performing IT risk assessments, penetration testing, and internal vulnerability scans. Scheidell is also a frequent speaker at international security conferences and has authored whitepapers on topics such as OSI layers and information security, SCADA security issues, and the Stuxnet virus.
