BIOGRAPHY
Rev. Dr. Iosmar Alvarez, a native of Cuba, immigrated to the United States in 2001, embarking on a transformative journey that led him to become a prominent figure in church planting and leadership within the United Methodist Church. Initially trained as a veterinarian, Dr. Alvarez felt a profound calling to ministry, which prompted him to serve as a local pastor in the Kentucky Conference starting in 2002. His passion for fostering worshiping congregations and making disciples has been evident throughout his ministerial career.
Dr. Alvarez’s commitment to theological education is reflected in his academic achievements. He completed the Course of Study Program at Garrett Theological Seminary in 2010, followed by a Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary in 2011. In 2012, he earned a Master’s degree in Christian Leadership from Lindsey Wilson College. His dedication to evangelism was recognized in 2013 when he received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award. Furthering his scholarly pursuits, Dr. Alvarez obtained a Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2017, focusing his research on factors influencing growth in small Hispanic United Methodist churches in 21st-century America.
