Susan Weikel Morrison

Before her work with NASA, Susan spent six years as a GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) Trainer, exhibit preparator, and science educator at the Castle Science and Technology Center in Atwater, California. In this role, she developed science exhibits and educational programs that catered to a broad audience, from schoolchildren to adults. Susan’s expertise in designing interactive and educational exhibits has been a key element in making science accessible and engaging for all. Prior to this, she served as a bilingual K-8 teacher in both the Madera Unified and Coalinga Unified School Districts for 35 years. Throughout her teaching career, she worked diligently to provide quality education to students, many of whom came from underserved communities, and played a significant role in their academic and personal development.

She attended California State University-Fresno, where she concentrated on education, and also studied at California State University-East Bay, earning an elementary credential in education. Her academic journey began at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she studied anthropology before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her AB degree with a focus on anthropology. Over the years, Susan has continued to expand her knowledge, taking part in specialized training programs in subjects such as paleontology, marine biology, and space science. These diverse courses have further enhanced her ability to engage students with a broad range of scientific topics.
