Themba J. Vundla

Before joining Athenahealth, Themba worked at MathWorks as a Senior Program Manager, where he led several programs focused on the localization of MATLAB and Simulink, as well as their expansion to the web and cloud platforms. He played a pivotal role in the development and delivery of the MATLAB Drive program, which enabled cloud-based file storage and integration with MATLAB applications. His focus on product quality and continuous improvement was evident in his leadership of root cause analyses (RCAs) to address recurring bugs, and in his efforts to implement Agile development practices. This led to a significant reduction in release cycles, ultimately enabling faster product iterations and improved time-to-market for MathWorks’ products.

Earlier in his career, Themba gained valuable experience at Authoria (now PeopleFluent) as a Senior Consultant, where he managed client implementations and provided key support during go-live. His work in configuring compensation and performance management solutions further strengthened his expertise in driving customer success through technology. He also worked at Computer Sciences Corporation, where he led the migration of critical refinery applications to a centralized data center. He was responsible for overseeing the infrastructure and technology applications across the bank’s branch network, where he implemented significant cost-saving initiatives and improved customer service through technological advancements. His work at the bank was instrumental in improving security and reducing operational costs by leveraging centralized deployment and management systems. Themba’s leadership, coupled with his ability to strategically manage resources, contributed significantly to the bank’s ability to expand its electronic banking solutions into neighboring countries.
