
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Tong Wu is a distinguished physician-scientist, educator, and researcher, serving as a professor and endowed chair in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. With more than two decades of academic and research experience, Dr. Wu has become a leader in the field of liver pathology, specializing in liver inflammation, liver injury, and hepatobiliary carcinogenesis. His extensive expertise in diagnostic liver and transplant pathology has earned him international recognition, and he has made significant contributions to advancing our understanding of liver diseases and their molecular mechanisms.
Before his current role at Tulane, Dr. Wu served as the Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University from 2009 to 2017. Prior to this, he spent ten years on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he further developed his expertise in pathology. Dr. Wu’s academic journey began at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he completed his residency in pathology. He further honed his research skills during a nearly seven-year tenure at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he trained as a research fellow and participated in a graduate program at George Washington University (GWU), earning his PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology.
