Joshua Nelken-Zitser

Joshua Nelken-Zitser is an award-winning British-German journalist and author, and a correspondent at Business Insider in London, where he covers the affordability and changing economics of modern life. He joined Business Insider in 2020 as a world news reporter, rose to senior reporter in 2021, moved into business journalism in 2025 and was promoted to correspondent in 2026.

During five years on the news desk he reported from across the United States, Europe and the Middle East. His reporting has been credited with helping at-risk individuals gain asylum and with contributing to the release of a Russian political prisoner; it was cited during President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial and led the Israel Defense Forces to retract an incendiary claim. In 2024 he received the Axel Springer Award for Change for Journalistic Piece of the Year, recognising a multi-year investigation into state-subsidised gender-transition surgeries in Iran, which was also highly commended at the 2024 British Journalism Awards.

He began his journalism career at seventeen, while still at school. At the University of Edinburgh he read politics, writing throughout his degree for publications including The Times, The Spectator and The Independent, with part of the degree spent at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A postgraduate degree in broadcast journalism at City St George's, University of London followed, during which he produced and presented 'Handed Down: A Look Into Transgenerational Trauma', a podcast shortlisted for a Bupa Mind Media Award in 2020. He has since worked as Weekend Editor at LBC and as a freelance producer for BBC Radio 2's The Jeremy Vine Show, and has contributed to The Telegraph and WIRED.

His first book, Trauma Bonds: How generational trauma shapes, divides and connects us, will be published by Mudlark, an imprint of HarperCollins, on 14 January 2027, with a foreword by the barrister and broadcaster Rob Rinder. The grandson of four Holocaust survivors, he began his remembrance work in 2011, at fourteen, alongside his grandmother, an Auschwitz survivor. Alongside his reporting he teaches and mentors as a Senior Fellow of the John Schofield Trust. Journalism published before 2024 carries the byline Joshua Zitser; he took the surname Nelken-Zitser on marrying that year.
